asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give a list of the plumage illegally imported and confiscated under the Importation of Plumage (Prohibition) Act, 1921, including the names of the species and the approximate amount of plumage in each case from 1st July to 30th September?

I have been asked to reply. The following is a list of birds (14 in number) the plumage of whicn, was illegally imported and was confiscated by the Custom authorities under the Importation of Plumage (Prohibition) Act, 1921, during the period 1st July to 30th September, 1926, together with the approximate amount of plumage involved in each case:

Name of Bird and Approximate Quantity of Plumage.

  • Avocet.—1 skin.
  • Burma Pigeon.—2 wings, 1 tail.
  • Bird of Paradise.—17 skins, 1 head, 2 millinery mounts.
  • 904
  • Egret.—159 feathers, 4 millinery mounts.
  • Grebe.—1 dress trimming.
  • Heron.—140 feathers, 1 head, 1 millinery mount.
  • Indian Roller.—1 skin, 2 wings, 5 feathers.
  • Kingfisher.—28 ornaments each containing a small portion of plumage.
  • Peacock.—198 feathers, 2 fans, 2 tails, 1 wing, 1 millinery mount.
  • Reeves Pheasant.—144 feathers, 2 fans, 2 millinery mounts.
  • Pelican.—1 skin.
  • Rook.—5 feathers.
  • Rhea Darwini.—84 feathers.
  • Stork.—47 feathers.

In addition to the foregoing, three consignments of miscellaneous prohibited plumage were seized.
