§ Colonel DAYasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the funds of the national health insurance and the pension fund under the Widows', Orphans', and Old Age Contributory Pensions Act, 1925, are amalgamated; what is the amount of the surplus on national health insurance in the hand(c) of the Ministry of Health; and what is the probable charge on the Exchequer in respect of the Widows', Orphans', and Old Age Contributory Pensions Act for the period ending the 31st March, 1926?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. Under Sub-section (1) of Section 11 of the Widows', Orphans', and Old Age Contributory Pensions' Act, 1925, a separate account for pensions is established. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply which I gave to a question of the hon. Member for the Govan Division of Glasgow (Mr. Maclean) on the 8th February. As to the last part of the question there will be no charge 2619W on the Exchequer for the period ending the 31st March, 1926, the first payment under Sub-section (3) of Section 11 of the Act being for the year ending 31st March, 192V. The expenses of administration payable out of voted moneys will be recovered from the Pensions Account.
