§ Brigadier-General CLIFTON BROWNasked the Minister of Pensions whether his attention has been drawn to the case of Mrs. Samuels, of 1, Hampton Road, Newbury, Berks, whose treatment allowance was debited with £1 1s., on account of her husband's unauthorised night absence at Orpington; whether it is in accordance with Pension Regulations to fine a wife with three small children on account of a neurasthenic husband's misbehaviour while in a Ministry of Pensions institution; and, if so, whether he will make more sympathetic Regulations in such cases?
§ Major TRYONI have inquired into the facts of this case to which my hon. and gallant Friend had already drawn my attention, and regarding which I have caused a full explanation to be sent to him. The Regulations of the Ministry strictly provide that any fine inflicted for a breach of discipline in a Ministry institution shall1642W be deducted only from the personal allowance payable to the man himself. The allowances due under the Warrant in respect of a patient's wife and children are not subject to deduction. The Regulations were adhered to in this case.
