asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of men and women respectively to whom Government scholarships and maintenance grants tenable at university departments of agriculture, agricultural colleges

Class 1.—For three or four years for degree courses in agriculture or horticulture at University Departments of Agriculture, or for the diploma of M.R.C.V.S. at the Royal Veterinary College.	33	5	38

The values of the scholarships vary according to the class of award and the charges for tuition, board and residence at the different institutions. The maximum values for each class are as follows:

Class I.—Payment of all fees for tutition and examination. In addition, scholars receive an initial outfit allowance up to a maximum of £50 and an annual maintenance grant up to £200 in the case of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and up to £150 at other Universities.

Class II.—Payment of all fees for tuition and examination. No outfit allowance is paid, but in order to enable scholars to meet initial expenditure in taking up the awards the maximum maintenance grant for the first year is £200. The maximum maintenance grant for the second year is £150.

Class III.—Payment of all fees for tuition, board, residence and laundry. In addition, scholars receive supplementary allowances to meet other expenditure involved (e.g., additional articles of clothing, games and club subscriptions, books, travelling, etc.) up to maxima of £15 for the first term and £10 for each subsequent term.
