HC Deb 04 March 1926 vol 192 c1634W
Sir G. COLLINS

asked the Minister of Labour the grounds for the refusal of unemployment benefit to Samuel McDade, an ex-service man, residing at 52, Captain Street, Greenock?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

Benefit was disallowed by the insurance officer, on the ground that the statutory condition requiring the applicant to be genuinely seeking work was not fulfilled. On appeal to the Court of Referees this decision was upheld. The case was subsequently reviewed by the insurance officer and the disallowance was reaffirmed; no appeal was lodged on this occasion. A further review of the case is now pending.
