HC Deb 25 February 1926 vol 192 c728W
Sir B. FALLE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty how long leading cook's mates of the Portsmouth Port Division serve before promotion to petty officer; and how this compares with similar ratings of Devonport and Chatham Port Divisions?

Mr. DAVIDSON

The periods served as leading cooks must necessarily vary according to the state of the Rosters at the moment, but in the long run they tend to equality at the three ports. The average seniorities of leading cooks advanced to petty officer cook during the Michaelmas quarter, 1925, were

Portsmouth 12 years 6 months
Devonport 11 years 10 months

No advancements were made at Chatham.
