asked the President of the Board of Education how many sets of

1926, in the several industries specified, are shown in the table below:

plans for new schools and extensions have been submitted to his Department for approval by the West Riding Education Authority during the last two years; how many have been actually approved; and how many either rejected or suspended for the time being?

My right hon. Friend assumes that the hon. Member is referring to public elementary school accommodation. Since 31st March, 1924, 32 sets of plans have been submitted to the Department by the West Riding authority. Of these 23 have received final approval and provide, by way of new schools or enlargements or replacement of existing schools, 8,187 school places in all. The remaining nine cases, involving the provision of about 2,300 new school places and the replacement of 1,290 others, are still in various stages of consideration.
