HC Deb 17 February 1926 vol 191 cc1947-8W
Mr. W. BAKER

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the fact that, although the Bristol City Council has been doing everything in its power to remedy the bad housing conditions in that city, he has been compelled to admit that the question of bad housing is clearly one which will require some time to solve, he will be prepared to recommend national assistance in order that this problem may be tackled on an adequate scale?

Sir K. WOOD

Local authorities already receive Exchequer assistance in carrying out slum clearance schemes. The question as to what steps could be taken to expedite these schemes is at present receiving consideration. My right hon. Friend does not consider that it is merely a question of granting further Exchequer assistance.
