HC Deb 17 February 1926 vol 191 cc1952-3W
Sir M. MANNINGHAM-BULLER

asked the Minister Agriculture whether the source of infection has been traced of the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Leicestershire and Warwickshire; and whether he can state the reason for closing an area of a 20-mile radius from the outbreak instead of a 15-mile radius as heretofore?

Sir H. BARNSTON

I have been asked to reply. The answer to the first part is in the negative. With regard to the second part, the first outbreak in this area occurred at Packington, and a 15-mile area round Packington was, placed under restrictions. There was also reason to believe that Tamworth Market was infected, and a restricted area of 15 miles radius round Tamworth was considered to be necessary. The conjunction of these two areas accounts for the somewhat larger area under restrictions round Packington to which my hon. Friend refers.
