HC Deb 15 February 1926 vol 191 c1566W
Mr. W. BAKER

asked the Postmaster-General if he will state for London, England excluding London, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the number of head offices, salaried sub-offices, and scale-payment sub-offices, together with the number of staff employed at the last-named; and in what official publication any or all of these particulars may be found?

Viscount WOLMER

The following particulars, which are included in the Estimates for Revenue Departments for the year ending 31st March, 1926, will perhaps suffice for the hon. Member's purpose:

Viscount WOLMER

My Noble Friend is under a misapprehension. Since 1906 it has been the practice to allow leave due in respect of an officer's first year of service, but not granted in that year, to be taken in the year of retirement from the service. The staff recently asked that these arrears of leave might be granted before the year of retirement; and as it was found that, by spreading the leave over the next 10 years, this could be done without expense, the change was sanctioned. I cannot state how many officers or how many working days' leave are involved.
