HC Deb 15 February 1926 vol 191 c1550W
Colonel DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India why a consignment of about 2,000 books despatched from London in January, 1924, to Mr. Shamsud din Hassan, of the Labour publishing house in Lahore, were confiscated by the Customs authority at Karachi?

Earl WINTERTON

I do not know that a consignment of books was stopped, but in view of this gentleman's activities as editor of a Lahore paper entitled "Revolution" and of his known connection with Indian revolutionaries in Europe, it seems not improbable that- the books consigned to him were works liable to seizure under the provisions of the Sea Customs Act.
