HC Deb 11 February 1926 vol 191 cc1246-7W
Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India how many persons are at present imprisoned, interned, or detained in places under the control of the Government of India for offences committed in connection with political propaganda and industrial disputes; and how many have been imprisoned, interned, or detained without trial?

Earl WINTERTON

Detailed figures as to prisoners for offences of a political nature were circulated with the OFFICIAL REPORT of the 4th May Corresponding figures for the present time are not available, but under the special Bengal legislation of last year and the Regulation of 1818 there were at the end of December in that province 67 persons in gaol and 55 domiciled either in villages or in their own homes who have not been tried. I am not aware of any figures of prisoners classified as offenders in connection with industrial disputes.
