HC Deb 11 February 1926 vol 191 c1260W
Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Agriculture what has been the result of the consideration which his predecessor promised to give to the revision of the scale of fees and the conditions of registration of producers of grade A tuberculin tested milk; and whether, in view of the national necessity of clean milk, he will consider the granting of free licences and free tuberculin tests?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

So far as the general conditions governing the licensing of producers of grade A (tuberculin tested) milk are concerned, I do not feel that it would be possible to make any material relaxation without impairing the value of the grade. The licence fees are arranged to cover the special expenses of supervision (especially bacteriological examination) and the cost of tuberculin testing is a part of the necessary cost of production of the milk. As at present advised, I am not prepared to relieve the producer of either of these charges.
