asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many typewriters were purchased for the 12 months ending 31st December last by His Majesty's Stationery Office and the Office of Works for Government Departments and offices at home and abroad; how many of these machines are of British manufacture; and what was the total value of these purchases?

The total number of typewriters acquired by His Majesty's Stationery Office for Government Departments and offices at home and abroad for the 12 months ending. 31st December last was 149. Of these, 121, of which 23 were of British manufacture, were obtained in exchange for old machines returned after the War, and 28, of which one was of British manufacture, were purchased outright. The total value of the machines acquired was £2,738. The value of the machines of British manufacture was £458.
