HC Deb 10 February 1926 vol 191 c1074W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the Government of the day started an insurance scheme to cover damage caused to life and property during the War; whether he can state the amount paid into the scheme and the amount paid out to claimants; and what has been done with any balance which may have been left?

Sir B. CHADWICK

I would refer the hon. Member to the preliminary statement of results of the Government War Insurance Schemes, of which I am sending him a copy. If he will let me know in which particular scheme he is interested I will let him have the latest figures. A small sum is retained to meet outstanding claims, and the balance, amounting to £17,409,638, has been surrendered to the Exchequer.
