HC Deb 09 February 1926 vol 191 cc858-9W
Lord APSLEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of British seamen registered as unemployed compared with the corresponding number this time last year?

Mr. BETTERTON

I have been asked to reply. The number of insured persons in the Shipping Service recorded as unemployed in Great Britain on 25th January, 1926, was 25,765, the corresponding figure for 26th January, 1925, being 26,916. These figures include all unemployed persons classified as belonging to the Shipping Service, such as seamen, stewards, clerks, cooks, firemen, etc., who are insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts. The nationalities of insured persons are not separately distinguished in the figures.
