HC Deb 09 February 1926 vol 191 c881W
Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the Postmaster-General how many men are employed in the General Post Office as inland section auxiliary sorters; what are the average hours of employment per week and the average earnings; and whether he is considering any rearrangement to enable these men to secure an increased number of hours' attendance per week?

Viscount WOLMER

Approximately 210 auxiliary sorters are employed in the inland section. Their hours of duty-range from 10 to 24 a week, and the present rates of pay vary from 1s. 3d. to 1s. 3¾d. an hour. The services of these men are only required during the period of evening pressure, and I regret that it is impracticable to increase their attendances.
