MORRISONasked the Postmaster-General how many men are employed in the General Post Office as inland section auxiliary sorters; what are the average hours of employment per week and the average earnings; and whether he is considering any rearrangement to enable these men to secure an increased number of hours' attendance per week?
§ Viscount WOLMERApproximately 210 auxiliary sorters are employed in the inland section. Their hours of duty-range from 10 to 24 a week, and the present rates of pay vary from 1s. 3d. to 1s. 3¾d. an hour. The services of these men are only required during the period of evening pressure, and I regret that it is impracticable to increase their attendances.
