HC Deb 09 February 1926 vol 191 c878W
Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that many auxiliary postmen receive less in wages than unemployment pay, and that, these men are overlooked when vacancies occur because they hold part-time work; and will he endeavour to have the work so arranged that part-time employés are not penalised?

Viscount WOLMER

Auxiliary postmen perform part-time duties, and the wages are based in each case on the number of hours worked. It is made clear to them at the time they take up part-time work than they have no claim to full-time appointments, but it is not the case that they are debarred from such appointments. It is open to eligible auxiliary postmen to register their names with the Employment Exchanges with a view to being considered for full-time employment in their turn with other ex-service men.
