Viscountess ASTORasked the Postmaster-General whether an opportunity will he given to ex-service temporary sorting clerks in the Post Office to compete for posts as established clerks, either in the forthcoming examination open to messenger boys and postmen only, or by some alternative examination?
§ Viscount WOLMERTemporary employés could not be appointed to these posts without interfering with the recognised claims of subordinate grades in the Post Office. They are, on this account, not allowed to compete in the Limited Competitions, and there is no alternative examination. They can, however, be considered for permanent employment as postmen with due regard to the claims of other ex-service men.
