asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the reasons for the delay in the publication of the result of the examination held in July last for the appointment of ex-service temporaries to permanent posts in the Civil Service?

There has been no avoidable delay in the publication of the result of the examination referred to. The results will be produced as expeditiously as the magnitude of the task permits.
