HC Deb 15 December 1926 vol 200 cc2945-6W
Mr. HAYES

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the approximate numbers of civil servants to whom the normal sick-leave pay Regulations for established officers apply, and the number of unestablished civil servants to whom other arrangements for pay during sick leave apply?

Mr. McNEILL

The number of non-industrial civil servants who are eligible for paying during sick leave under the terms of the Order in Council of 10th January, 1910, applicable to established civil servants is approximately 186,000. The number of other non-industrial whole-time civil servants serving under other conditions as to sick leave is approximately 62,000.

Mr. PRESTON

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the total number of sick-leave absences and their average duration amongst male and female established civil servants outside the Post Office during each of the last five convenient years?

Mr. McNEILL

No complete particulars are available as regards the total number of sick-leave absences and their average duration amongst male and female established civil servants in all Departments of State, other than the Post Office, during each of the last five years. The following statement, which has been compiled from the records for the last four years of nine principal Departments other than the Post Office, may, however, be of interest to my hon. Friend:

Average amount of sick-leave absence in days of established civil servants employed in nine principal Departments of State (exclusive in some cases of ex-headquarters staff
Men. Women.
Disabled. Others.
1922 9.6 7.4 12.8
1923 9.9 7.1 13.9
1024 10.0 7.7 14.1
1925 10.5 7.7 14.2
For 1925 the figures are inclusive of Sundays occurring within a period of sick leave; in the earlier years the figures for some Departments were for working days only.
