HC Deb 15 December 1926 vol 200 c2963W
Mr. BOOTHBY

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that a supplementary Report on the accident that occurred at St. Margaret's, Edinburgh, on the 10th May last, is open to the interpretation that an official of the railway company misled the inspecting officer by giving untruthful evidence with regard to an alleged refusal of the emnlry4s of the railway company on strike to help in rescuing the passengers after the accident; and whether he can give any further information with regard to this matter?

Colonel ASHLEY

I have carefully perused the Reports of the Inquiry into this accident, and can only say that in my opinion any such interpretation of the Reports is entirely unwarranted and was, I understand, not intended. The object of the Inquiry was to ascertain the causes of the accident, and the Inspecting Officer, quite rightly in my view, declined to express any opinion on the question whether any such refusal to rescue passengers had or had not taken place.
