§ Captain BULLOCKasked the Minister of Health (1) if, in view of the extent to which stocks of food treated with preservatives, whose sale after 1st January will be illegal, are now held by retailers and grocers, he will extend the coming into force of the Order to enable these traders to recover after the trade depression of 1026;
(2) If he is aware of the accumulation of stocks in this country of the articles of food affected by the section of the Public Health (Preservatives in Food) Regulations which becomes operative on 1st. January; whether he has received 2782W any representations asking for a postponement of this section of the Order, in view of the industrial trouble during this year, and the consequent decreased purchasing power of the people; and whether he will consider, as a compromise, agreeing to the suggestion that this Order should only apply to foods imported after 1st May, the date on which the general strike commenced?
