asked the President of the Board of Trade the index figure of the cost of living when the Budget was passed last May; and what that figure now is?

I have been asked to reply. The Ministry of Labour cost of living index figures for each date of compilation from 1st April to 1st September have been as shown below:

Percentage Increase over July, 1914.
1st April … 73
1st May … 71
31st May … 69
1st July … 70
1st August … 71
1st September … 72
Statistics relating to 1st October are now being compiled and will be published towards the end of next week.
