HC Deb 21 May 1924 vol 173 c2230W
Mr. DUNCAN

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that British women employed at the British Empire Exhibition, serving in restaurants and teashops, are being paid a weekly wage of 15s. for 60 hours' work; and whether he will see that the provision of the Shops Act are enforced in these establishments?

Mr. DAVIES

I have no information as to the hours worked or the wages paid in the case of these employés, and I would point out that the enforcement of the Shops Acts rests not with the Home Office but with the local authority.
