HC Deb 21 May 1924 vol 173 cc2231-2W
Major BIRCHALL

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department what sums have been expended on the work of overseas settlement each year since the Empire Settlement Act became law; and what has been done with the unexpended balances?

Mr. LUNN

During the financial year 1922–23 the sum of £35,000 was expended under the Empire Settlement Act, and during the year 1923–24 the sum of £425,100. The unexpended balances reverted to the Exchequer in accordance with the usual practice.
