§ Mr. MILLARasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is prepared to institute an inquiry into the question of outstanding claims for loss and damage caused by enemy action and to take steps to provide more adequate funds and machinery for dealing with these claims?
Mr. GRAHAMIn accordance with the promise given by me on the 29th April,58W the Government have again considered this matter, but are unable to depart from the decision that the sum of £5,000,000 distributed on the recommendation of the Royal Commission on Compensation for Suffering and Damage by Enemy Action and the sum of £300,000 to be allocated to belated claims cannot be increased. Accordingly, no question of instituting a fresh inquiry arises.
