§ Sir H. BRITTAINasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, seeing that the British Government has decided to give no credit for any interest on the sums in their hands which are charged under the Treaty of Versailles with the payment of the claims of British nationals for the loss of their property in Germany, he will say whether, in case this fund should not be sufficient to meet all those claims in full, the fund will, as between the Government and the British creditors, be credited with an 2154W amount equivalent to the interest which has accrued or should accrue on the sums retained in the hands of the Government for the payment of such claims?
§ Mr. SNOWDENThe Mixed Arbitral Tribunal has at present before it an application to decide whether interest is payable on these sums. In these circumstances the remainder of the question—which is in any case a hypothetical one—is premature.
