Earl of DALKEITHasked the Postmaster-General whether he has received any representations from the Jedburgh Town Council on the urgent need for the construction of a new post office; and, whether, seeing that the need for such a post office has been recognised for many years past, that the present premises are utterly unsuitable for every purpose connected with postal work, that the Government already possesses an excellent site for a new post office, that the building of new premises would give employment to a large number of the unemployed in the town, he will make a point of including in the Estimates for this year provision for the new post office?

§ Mr. HARTSHORNI have received representations in the sense suggested. The necessity for a new post office at Jedburgh is fully recognised; but in view of the present financial situation, and of the large, number of competing claims, I have been reluctantly obliged to postpone a start on the new building until the financial year 1925–26.
