HC Deb 02 June 1924 vol 174 cc909-10W
Mr. H. MORRISON

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that considerable anxiety is caused to parents of children attending Sidney Road London County Council School, Homerton, on the ground that the traffic, including that of omnibuses and other traffic in connection with the coal wharf, is dangerous to the children when they are entering or leaving school; and whether he will meet this anxiety by having a policeman on duty when children are entering or leaving school outside the school and at Marsh Hill?

Mr. HENDERSON

The Commissioner of Police informs me that a constable is already stationed at the junction of Wick Road and Sidney Road to assist children to cross the roads when going to or coming from the school referred to, and the provision of additional officers for a similar purpose at the entrance to the coal wharf and at the junction of Marsh Hill and Sidney Road is considered unnecessary. There is only a 10-minute service of omnibuses through Sidney Road and the other traffic is light. A child of five was slightly injured by a motor-cycle in this road on 22nd May, but no other accident near the school is recorded during the past year.
