HC Deb 30 July 1924 vol 176 cc2081-2W
Mr. BAKER

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that, despite the large number of cases which have been satisfactorily reviewed as a result of complaints which have been made, the practice of refusing on insufficient grounds to grant unemployment benefit is on the increase at the Employment Exchanges at Kingswood and Victoria Street, Bristol; and whether he will cause an immediate inquiry to be held into the administration of unemployment insurance in that city?

Mr. SHAW

I cannot accept the statement that it is the practice to refuse benefit on insufficient grounds in the areas referred to by my hon. Friend. I am always willing to look into individual cases, but, on the information before me, I do not consider that any general inquiry on the lines suggested by my hon. Friend is necessary.
