HC Deb 29 July 1924 vol 176 cc1910-1W
Mr. W. ALLEN

asked the Postmaster. General if he will consider extending to Leicester the telegraphic facilities enjoyed by other large towns so as to permit of telegrams being delivered there after 10 p.m.?

Mr. HARTSHORN

The telegraph facilities at Leicester are similar to those provided at other towns of comparable size, and I have no evidence that the present practice of ceasing delivery of telegrams by messenger after 10 p.m. causes any appreciable public inconvenience. The cost of extending the delivery service throughout the night would be out of all proportion to the number of persons likely to be benefited, and I regret, therefore, that I should not be justified in authorising such an extension.
