HC Deb 24 July 1924 vol 176 c1539W
Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

asked the Minister of Health whether, in regard to the proposal of the Middlesex County Council to acquire the mansion and grounds known as Porter's Park, Shenley, Herts, for the purposes of a mental hospital, he is satisfied that suitable property is not available for the purpose within the Middlesex borders; and whether, in view of the objections on the grounds of mental health and amenity entertained by the villagers of Shenley against the establishment of a second large mental hospital for 4,000 mental patients in their neighbourhood, he will refuse his sanction to the proposal?

Mr. WHEATLEY

This proposal has been the subject of a local inquiry, and the report is now before me. The local Objections to the scheme and the question whether a suitable property could be found for the purpose within the Middlesex area will be carefully considered before a decision is given.
