HC Deb 22 July 1924 vol 176 c1135W
Mr. S. ROBINSON

asked the President of the Board of Education if he is aware that considerable dissatisfaction exists relative to Section 2 of the School Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1922; and if he will consider the desirability of introducing amending legislation to extend the period during which contributions may be repaid to a woman teacher after marriage from one to three years?

Mr. TREVELYAN

I am aware that there have been protests from individual

1913–14. 1921–22. 1922–23.
Total number of Men Teachers. 38,701 (all grades) 35,101 (all grades) 34,026 (exclusive of student-teachers, pupil - teachers, etc.).
Number of Certificated Teachers (included in above). 33,982 31,810 32,133

By "intensively-trained ex-service men" I assume that the hon. Member is referring to those ex-service men who were trained for the teaching profession in the colleges established after the Armistice by the Ministry of Labour. I have no figures of the employment of these teachers earlier than October, 1923. At that time there were 860 of these men employed as teachers.
