HC Deb 22 July 1924 vol 176 cc1141-2W
Mr. VIANT

asked the Minister of Health how many approved societies and branches had deficiencies in the administration accounts at the end of 1918 which had to be met either by levy or by grants from the private side before the Ministry would make known the result of the valuation of those societies or branches?

Mr. GREENWOOD

In the case of one society and 135 branches (of which 122 related to one society), the issue of the valuation reports was withheld pending the making good of a deficiency on the administration account as at the valuation date.

Mr. VIANT

asked the Minister of Health how many approved societies and branches separately valued had disposable surpluses at the last valuation, or surpluses not disposal or deficiencies, respectively?

Mr. GREENWOOD

The full number of cases in which the last valuations of approved societies and branches showed a surplus was 9,767, the cases of deficiency were 407, and in 10 cases the assets and liabilities balanced. The engagements of a considerable number of societies and branches in both classes were, however, transferred shortly after the valuation date, and for the purpose of ascertaining disposable surplus the results of the valuations in these cases were combined. Each of the categories mentioned in the question thus became as follows:

Disposable surplus 7,631
Surplus not disposable 1,081
No balance 8
Deficiency 335
