HC Deb 22 July 1924 vol 176 cc1131-2W
Mr. GROVES

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that Mr. A. Wal- pole was sent by the Oldham Employment Exchange to Grimsby to apply for a situation; that the man was requested to regularly work overtime on Saturdays and Sundays, and has had his unemployment benefit stopped because he declined these conditions; and, as such regular overtime is an infringement of the conditions of contract between the federated employers and employés, if he will investigate the circumstances, and restore the man's benefits.

Mr. SHAW

The question whether Mr. Walpole is entitled to Unemployment Benefit is at present before the Umpire who, under the Unemployment Insurance Act, has the duty of giving a final decision. The Umpire will have before him in his consideration of the case the representation made by the applicant's association.
