§ Sir A. CHURCHMANasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that officials of his Department 1139W have restricted the traditional right of the fishermen of Bawdsey to load and cart shingle from the beach; that this restriction on quantity together with the fee charged has deprived these fishermen of employment; and that the accumulation of shingle is causing the entrance to the River Deben from the sea to be considerably narrowed; and whether he will take steps to remedy this condition of things?
Mr. WEBBI have been asked to reply. My information is that there has been no occasion to interfere with the removal of shingle at Bawdsey, as this is taken from above high water mark. If it is desired to remove shingle below that mark, it would be necessary to apply to the Board of Trade for permission.
