HC Deb 21 July 1924 vol 176 cc898-9W
Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Prime Minister whether he will circulate with the Votes the particulars concerning the expansion of the Japanese Navy communicated to Great Britain and the three other great naval Powers as required by the Washington Treaty; and whether the cruiser which was building and damaged by the earthquake, which is being re-built, is to he of the same tonnage and armament as originally designed?

The PRIME MINISTER

There is no obligation on the part of any Power signatory to the Washington Treaty to communicate to the other Powers concerned any particulars or details of new construction except as regards capital ships and aircraft carriers. With regard to the second part of the question, there is no reason to believe that the design of this cruiser has been materially altered.
