HC Deb 16 July 1924 vol 176 c402W
Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been drawn to the dissatisfaction existing in the Middlesbrough area at the number of unemployed men who have been refused benefit on the alleged grounds that they are not genuinely seeking work, although they may have tramped miles in search of it and it is well known that no employment is available in the district; and will he make special inquiries into the administration of unemployment benefit in that area?

Mr. SHAW

I have received certain complaints as to cases in which, it is alleged, unemployment benefit has been wrongly disallowed, and I am having full inquiry made into them.
