HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 cc505-6W
Mr. BECKER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will issue Regulations making it lawful to sell ice cream during the British Empire Exhibition between the hours of 9.30 p.m. and midnight?

Mr. DAVIES

Closing hours for the sale of ice cream are fixed by the Shops (Early Closing) Acts, and I am advised that the Home Office has no power to vary them as suggested.

Mr. BECKER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of summonses which have been issued during 1923 upon persons charged with selling tobacco between the hours of 8 o'clock p.m. and midnight?

Mr. DAVIES

No, Sir; there are no figures available on this point.
