HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 cc503-4W
Mr. TILLETT

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the desirability of making it compulsory upon all motor vehicles to have fitted a reflector on the off-side of the driver's seat, so that a view may be had of overtaking traffic; and, as the universal adoption of this device would assist in the prevention of accidents, will he consider the adoption of a Measure to compel the use of this device?

Mr. GOSLING

I am not satisfied that the universal adoption of mirrors or reflectors would generally assist in the prevention of accidents, though their use, in cases where the driver is unable to hear or see signals from behind, is no doubt a convenience to overtaking traffic. I am not prepared therefore to make their use compulsory.
