HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 c511W
Mr. G. SPENCER

asked the Minister of Labour the amount of contribution paid by the coal-mining industry to the national unemployment fund for the six months ending 31st December, 1923, and the benefits paid for the same period?

Mr. SHAW

Separate accounts are not kept of the contributions and benefit for each industry. At a rough estimate, however, it appears that contributions of employers and employed in the coal-mining industry for the last six months of 1923 amounted to about £2,300,000, and that the amount of unemployment benefit paid to workpeople registered as belonging to the industry over the same period was about £580,000.
