§ Mr. G. SPENCERasked the Minister of Labour the amount of contribution paid by the coal-mining industry to the national unemployment fund for the six months ending 31st December, 1923, and the benefits paid for the same period?
§ Mr. SHAWSeparate accounts are not kept of the contributions and benefit for each industry. At a rough estimate, however, it appears that contributions of employers and employed in the coal-mining industry for the last six months of 1923 amounted to about £2,300,000, and that the amount of unemployment benefit paid to workpeople registered as belonging to the industry over the same period was about £580,000.
