HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 cc489-90W
Mr. S. HASTINGS

asked the Minister of Health whether, seeing that our high infantile mortality is due to a considerable extent to the lack of knowledge of parents, he will consider the desirability of giving a short simply-written book on the care and management of infants to every mother who registers the birth of her child?

Mr. WHEATLEY

This suggestion has been frequently considered, but experience has shown that most mothers learn more readily from the advice given by medical officers at infant welfare centres, and by health visitors at the homes of the children, than from the information contained in books on the care and management of infants.
