§ Mr. WRIGHTasked the. Minister of Agriculture if he will state particulars as to the number of gallons of milk it takes to make one pound of butter in Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Germany, Ireland and Great Britain?
§ Mr. BUXTONNo statistics exist which would disclose the particulars for which my hon. Friend asks. The yield of butter from a given volume of milk varies considerably with the breed of the cows providing the milk. Having regard to the breeds generally kept in the countries mentioned an estimate may be made as follows:—
1802W
Gallons per lb. of butter. Denmark from 1.9 to 2½8 Holland from 2.3 to 3½0 Sweden from 2.1 to 2½9 Germany from 2.2 to 3½0 Ireland from 2.2 to 2½7 Great Britain from 1.8 to 2½9
