HC Deb 26 March 1923 vol 162 cc66-7W
Mr. GREAVES-LORD

asked the Secretary for Mines what loss in wages to the miners was represented by the loss in December, 1922, of 7½ per cent. of the total number of manshifts, excluding manshifts lost through stoppage of the pits, which could have been worked during that month?

Lieut.-Colonel LANE-FOX

I have no means of ascertaining the actual loss, but an estimate based on the average earnings per shift in December in each district for all classes of workpeople would give a figure of nearly £900,000.
