§ Mr. CHARLES ROBERTSasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what export duties are levied in Nigeria, the Gold Coast, Sierra Leone, and Gambia, respectively, on the produce of those territories; and what amounts were realised in each case by these duties?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GORE:In Nigeria there are export duties of £3 per ton on palm oil and £2 per ton on palm kernels. The amounts realised by these duties in 1920 and 1921 were on palm oil £240,404 and £158,315, and on palm kernels, £436,172 and £311,286. In the Gold Coast there is an export duty of £2 6s. 8d. per ton on cocoa. The amounts realised in 1920 and 1921 were £580,456 and £622,153. In Sierra Leone there is an export duty of 2934W £1 per ton on palm kernels. The amounts realised in 1920 and 1921 were £136,000 and £26,000. In the Gambia there is a duty of £1 per ton on ground-nuts. The amounts realised in 1920 and 1921 were £26,614 and £55,281.
