§ Mr. PETOasked the Prime Minister whether he will authorise the survey of the proposed Mid-Scotland Ship Canal (Direct Sea Level) and the preparation of estimates of cost for the information of the Government?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI have been asked to reply. I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by the Prime Minister, on the 5th March, to a question on this subject by the hon. Member for West Renfrew (Mr. R. Murray). While the Government will be happy to examine a definite scheme submitted to them with estimates, it rests with the advocates of the canal to make such preliminary investigations as may be required to enable them to estimate its cost.
