HC Deb 02 August 1923 vol 167 cc1742-3W
Mr. HARRIS

asked the President of the Board of Education whether the officials at the Board have received communications from teachers' associations and from individual teachers on the subject of the delay in the payment of the lump sum and the first instalment of pension to teachers who have retired in accordance with the provisions of The School Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1918; whether he will inquire as to the necessity of an interval of three months and more elapsing without the receipt from the retiring teacher of any communication from the Board or of any portion of the lump sum; when the Board will make the first payments of pension and lump sum to Mr. W. R. Taylor, formerly headmaster of Lomond Grove London County Council School, who retired on 29th April, 1923, and when the Board will make the first payments of pension and lump sum to Miss F. Durrant, formerly of Brackenbury Road London County Council School, who retired on 9th April, 1923?

Mr. WOOD

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and for a general statement of the reasons for delay in the issue of awards I may refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply given on the 16th April last to the hon. Member for Mid-Bedfordshire (Mr. Linfield). I am glad to say that the awards in the cases referred to in the question have already been announced to the teachers concerned, and payment will be made as soon as the Board receives from them the necessary declarations of identity.
