HC Deb 02 August 1923 vol 167 c1740W
Mr. HANNON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will take into consideration during the Recess the possibility of considerably extending the organisation of the overseas trade representation of this country both within the Empire and in foreign communities; and whether, in the development of this branch of the activities, of his Department, he will endeavour to secure the services of practical experienced business men, who will not merely collect information, but will influence the flow of trade?

Lieut.-Colonel BUCKLEY

The question of expanding the Trade Commissioner and Commercial Diplomatic Services within the limits of the funds at the disposal of my Department is receiving my earnest consideration. The functions of the members of these services-are not merely to collect information, but also to secure trade for the United Kingdom, and this branch of their work is borne in mind when officers for the services are being selected.
