§ Captain BOWYERasked the Minister of Health what is the population, according to the latest census figures, of Olney and Newport Pagnell, Bucks; whether he is aware that efforts by local doctors to get these figures have been unsuccessful; and will he cause all census figures to be published?
§ Mr. NEVILLE CHAMBERLAINAs stated in the Preliminary Census Report published in August, 1921, the provisional 1921 Census population for the Newport Pagnell urban district was 4,142, and the corresponding figure for the Newport1754W Pagnell rural district was 14,753. The final and verified figures, together with the figures for the constituent civil parishes (including Olney civil parish) are not as yet available, but will be published in due course when Buckinghamshire is reached in the order of county tabulations. I am not aware of the efforts referred to in the question; but I should point out that it is open to any persons locally interested to make application to the Registrar-General under Section 4 (2) of the Census Act, 1920, which empowers him to supply unpublished Census statistics "at the request and cost of any local authority or person." I am informed that two applications were received over a year ago for unpublished Census statistics relative to these localities, and that in both cases the applicants were informed that the information would be supplied on the payment of certain charges to cover the cost of extraction. No further communication has, however, been received in either case.
